Explora

Explora is a DLC girl in Crush Crush, obtainable via her Limited Time Event or via her bundle in the Store. She is the forty-third (43rd) addition to the main list.

You meet Explora after picking up one of her fliers at a tech convention, getting her hopes up that someone still remembers her despite how "inconvenient" she was.

Personality

Bless her heart, Explora is often a few steps behind everyone else. It’s not that she doesn’t WANT to keep up with the latest thing, it’s just that by the time she figures out what the latest thing is, it’s not the latest thing anymore!

There’s something truly charming about this girl’s can-do attitude and perky positivity that makes you happy to overlook the occasional blue screen or moment of buffering. Oh yeah, did we mention she’s a web browser personified?

Facing down your own impending obsolescence must be pretty intimidating, but Explora doesn’t let it get to her. As long as she exists, she’s gonna keep doing what she does, and if just one person keeps her as their default browser, she’s gonna be there for them!^[1]

Explora is based off of internet Explorer-Chan from the browser girls webcomic by Merryweather Comics, who herself is based on the Microsoft browser, Internet Explorer.
Explora's release date of April 20 is 3 days after Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer.
Explora's birthday, August 16, is a direct reference to the release date of Internet Explorer- August 16, 1995. Additionally, her age increases on her birthday each year to remain the same age as the browser, making her the only character in crush crush whose age changes over time.
In her bundle, her height is listed as 5'3" (160 cm).
She has a unique set of gifts with the same prices as the original.
- Rose is replaced with a CD.
- Donut is replaced with Java.
- Fruit basket is replaced with an Apple.
  - This removes 795 affection and plays a special line. This is a reference of computer rivalry between Microsoft and Apple.
- Book is replaced with Crypto.
- Earrings are replaced with a magnet.
  - This removes 12,273 affection and plays a special line. This is a reference to the fact that magnets destroy CRT TVs and erase all of the data from HDD Hard Drives.

Explora's character is centered around Internet Explorer, and as such contains many references to both the old and new internet.
- All of Explora's requirements are comprised of 1s and 0s. This is a reference to binary code, the most basic form of computer code.
- The field in the background of Explora's Friendship photo is a reference to Bliss, the default computer wallpaper of Windows XP.
- When upgrading to Nuisance, she says she would like to "make mosaic art", "go on a safari" and "perform in an opera" before she dies. These are references to two popular web browsers, Safari and Opera, as well as Mosaic - one of the earliest internet browsers.
- In her line in Adversary, "All by myself... Don't wanna be all by myself... Anymore... Huh? Wait, you're still here? This never happens! Let's chat! A/S/L?" is a reference to the Eric Carmen song with the same title. Additionally, A/S/L means "Age, Sex, Location?" which was a greeting in Internet chatrooms.
- After upgrading to Acquaintance, her line that says "LOL! Did you see that one GIF with the dancing baby? Too cute!" is a reference to the "Dancing Baby" meme that became popular in 1996.
- When upgrading to Friendzone, she says "And I can't help but wonder, what does a fire-fox say?". This is a double reference to both the Firefox browser and the Ylvis meme-song "What Does The Fox Say?" that exploded in popularity around 2013.
- The line she says when given a gift from the Friendzone, "I can haz gift? Woot! K thx bai! (...)" is a reference to the "I Can Has Cheezburger?" meme from 2007.
- In the line: "How are your Knee-Oh-Pets doing? Judging by your face, maybe it's time to check on them? Oh! And then we can play some Run Escape together!", she's referencing two popular online games in the 2000's era: Neopets and RuneScape.
- Her "Badger badger badger MUSHROOM MUSHROOM! (...)" line is a reference to Badgers by theweebl.
- Her "ROFL : ROFL : LOL : (this creates a helicopter that is not here for sake of space.)" line is a reference to the ROFLcopter meme.
- In the line: "How do I maintain a positive outlook? By monitoring my attitude 365 days a year! It might sound silly on the surface, but if I could send just one note to the world, it would say "uninstall negativity!" Teehee! Isn't that so clever? Hey, why aren't you laughing?" she references Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft OneNote, part of the Microsoft 365 digital productivity suite.
- The line "My favorite color is #0078d7. I wonder what yours is? Wait, don't tell me! I'll ask my friend Jeeves to help me figure it out!" contains a reference to the former search engine Ask.com, previously known as Ask Jeeves.
- When receiving a gift at Crush level, she references Yahoo, a search engine.
- Her line "Hey, are you on ISeekYou? ExclAIM? LiveIM? No? How am I supposed to instant message you?" references the instant messengers ICQ, AIM, and Windows Live Messenger (MSN).
