Festival Event

From SPS Wiki
(Redirected from Food Festival Event)

The Festival Event (known as "Food Festival Event" on Mobile) is a matsuri-themed Parallel Event in Blush Blush, first taking place from June 20 to June 24, 2025, exclusively on Steam and Mobile, spanning a total of four days. It rewarded Mac as a dateable character.

As this event takes place within a Parallel Universe, things such as Time Blocks, Speed Boosts, Hobbies and other things are reset, meaning you start from scratch and work your way from the ground up.

This Event features "Goals", which can be completed in order to earn various items and boosts that are helpful in progressing further in the event, such as Speed Boosts, Time Skips, Time Blocks, Money, and Lucky Coins. Additionally, some goals offer rewards for the Main Game, such as an Event Achievement and an array of outfits. If you complete every Goal before the event ends, you will be able to unlock the grand prize: a fully date-able Guy for the Main Game.

Opening Cutscene

[edit | edit source]

Upon entering the Event, you're greeted with an opening cutscene/dialogue which plays out as the following:

  1. (You find yourself somewhere both familiar and not familiar. It's almost like you've stepped into...)
  2. (A PARALLEL UNIVERSE!)
  3. (It's a humid summer evening, and the air is filled with the delicious aroma of grilled food. Following a trail of paper lanterns, you find yourself on the outskirts of what appears to be a traditional summer festival!)
  4. Myx: Psst! Hey! You there! Confused looking tourist! Have you seen anyone carrying a musical instrument on your way here? Or wait - do YOU have an instrument on you? Maybe a pocket shamisen?
  5. (It takes a minute, but you finally find the source of the voice: a gorgeous guy crouched behind a garbage can! But what the heck could he be hiding from?)

You then exit the Dialogue, and are greeted by Q-Bae explaining the event:

  1. Welcome to the Festival Event! This limited-time event takes place in a parallel universe where the locals are hosting a traditional summer festival!
  2. In this universe, all your festival-themed jobs and hobbies start at level 0. The same goes for any guys you meet, and they'll pay out Lucky Coins as you get to know them!
  3. Make sure you spend your Lucky Coins while you can! Since Lucky Coins can't travel between universes, you won't be able to keep them once the Festival Event ends.
  4. The good news is, Diamonds CAN travel between universes! That means your Diamonds are shared between the Festival Event and your main game.
  5. By the way, you'll earn rewards based on the progress you make during the Festival Event. You can claim your rewards in the "Goals" tab.
  6. Throughout the event, any Outfits or Character rewards you earn will travel back through the portal with you to your main game.
  7. Just remember, Speed Boosts, Time Blocks, and Lucky Coins CAN'T travel back with you, so spend them before the timer runs out!
  8. You can return to the main game any time by going to the "Return" tab!
  9. That about covers it. Have fun, and enjoy the Festival Event!

Ending Cutscene

[edit | edit source]
  1. (Talk about a successful night at the matsuri festival!)
  2. (Myx's impromtu fusion concert is a hit, and even though you couldn't reunite Nimh with his friends, you showed him a good time, regardless.)
  3. (Ace's watermelon is the juciest fruit you've ever eaten, and Fuyu finds all his goldfish good homes - including a few with you!)
  4. (Meanwhile, Ichiban is too busy enjoying himself to notice he went viral, and Mac sells out every last plate of his crazy festival food.)
  5. (As the night draws to a close, you find a perfect viewing spot to enjoy the fireworks before you feel the pull of the portal calling you home.)
  6. (The portal closes around you, and... What's that out of the corner of your eye? Was that a hawt guy jumping in after you...!?)

Event Currency

[edit | edit source]
A Lucky Coin.

In the Festival Event, Diamonds are substituted with a different type of currency, that being Lucky Coins. Lucky Coins can be used to buy Speed Boosts, Time Skips, Time Blocks, go on Dates and buy Gifts. They are obtained by advancing through relationship levels with each girl, and completing certain Goals. In addition, you can also purchase varying amounts of Lucky Coins by trading in Diamonds for them. Once the event is over, Lucky Coins cannot be used elsewhere and are not kept intact for when the event comes back around.

Adversary

  • I know what you're probably thinking: "This guy is hiding out waiting to mug the next musician who walks by!" But it's not like that at all, I swear!
  • Oh, don't worry about me. I might be acting a little squirrely right now, but I promise you I'm not nuts!
  • If you think I'm cute now, you should see me in daylight. I've got dimples! That's why I knew you couldn't say no to helping me out. Nobody says no to dimples!
  • Hey there. I'm Myx. Normally I'm a little more "Hey, look at me! I love the spotlight!" Just right now I have... reasons for laying low. But I won't let that interfere with me making the heck out of your acquaintance.
  • Don't sweat it. Even if they catch you with me, it's not like they're gonna tackle you to the ground or anything. They might tackle ME to the ground, but so long as you step out of the splash zone you should be okay.
  • So, if I'm understanding you right, you came to this festival accidentally? Implying you HAVEN'T seen the poster advertising the food, activities, and musical guests for the evening? Phew - I mean, cool!
  • Eeek! Watch it! If you make me squeal like that again, it might draw unwanted attention!
  • Wow! You shouldn't have! No really, I'm not super digging this, but my code of honor demands I accept it. SO... CONFLICTED...

[edit | edit source]
  1. Okay, I’m gonna assume you’re cool and lay some honest-tea on ya. I was actually supposed to be playing the main stage here tonight. The festival band needed a stand-in musician so naturally I was like “Hell yeah, I’d love to eat this week!”
  2. Just one problem: I thought this was a JAZZ fest, so all I brought was a cool bass and a hot sax. Now I’m thinking I’d be better off ditching than going up on stage looking like I didn’t do the homework...

Acquaintance

  • Think you can help me track down a shamisen before my shift on the main stage starts? Otherwise, I can probably throw together a tissue box and some rubber bands...
  • Yeah, sure, let's hang out. Whether I make it on stage or not, I'm always down for a hang out. We can play some games... Until they kick me out for missing my cue, anyway.
  • Is it still "imposter syndrome" if you're ACTUALLY an imposter? Asking for... a friend. Yeah, a friend! Who took a job at a dueling piano bar but only plays the, uh, harpsichord. Yeah, that’s it.
  • I've been brainstorming options for instruments in case the shamisen search continues to be fruitless. So keep an eye out for koto and taiko drums. Unless... Do you think peeps'll notice if I try to pass off a recorder as a bamboo flute?
  • Go ahead. Pet the kimono. I see you over there, all thirsty. Wondering if it feels like a breezy, sweat-wicking summer dream. Well it does. Which is a nice change, since I'm currently living a musician's worst nightmare!
  • You look kinda worried. Here. Have some tea. Even if this festival goes down as the worst one in history because it didn't have music, it'll only be my fault, not yours! Uggh...
  • [Same as Adversary]
  • Nice! You don’t have to win me all this swag. But... Well, I’m not gonna say no, am I?

  1. I'm starting to suspect that games of chance don't give out thousand-dollar instruments as prizes. But even if we won a shamisen, it's not like I know how to play it... Sorry, did I forget to mention that part?
  2. I guess when I hatched that particular plan I just kinda figured... How hard could it be to learn another string instrument? But maybe it's time for me to face the music...

Frenemy

  • I started writing a song about how all this has made me feel. But then I started rapping about butts, and promptly forgot the lyrics. Butts, am I right?

  1. You may have noticed that I am still here, standing in front of you eating delicious food on a stick, looking an awful lot like someone who HASN'T tendered his resignation to the no-doubt terrifying yakuza boss of this festival.
  2. Well, I thought about it, and while I may not be the right guy for the job, the only WRONG guy for the job is the one who doesn't get on stage at all! Also, my rent is due.

Friendzone

  • Did I mention this isn't a solo gig? So if you see what appears to be a bunch of pissed off musicians grumbling about their stand-in being a no-show, do me a solid and let me stand behind you or something? Kthx!
  • I need some help. I need to keep my smoulder sharp, in case my musical stylings aren't enough to get the crowd on my side. So, if you don't mind, just sit there and I'll get some practice in. Ready? *ahem*... Hey there...
  • Hey, would you mind giving me a boost so I can see above the crowd better? I wanna get a view of the stage to check if the band's setting up yet, but I don't wanna get close enough for them to spot me.
  • From the sounds of it, it's taking up a lot of time racing around trying to rescue me from my own hubris. Why don't you take a break and play some games, win some food, eat some prizes?
  • Okay, so what's your read on this crowd? Do you think they're taiyaki traditionalists - red bean paste or bust - or are they open to some East-meets-West fusion experimentation? Strictly talking about dessert here.
  • Oh my. I keep forgetting I'm not just here on a fun summer night out. Can you stop being so dang charming for a minute so I can stay focused?
  • Sure, I wanted to ditch the festival all together, but then I remembered the backup guitarist's oath... They never give up, or let you down. They never desert you.

  1. Let me hit you with the plan. Just because I don't have a set list, sheet music, or the right instrument doesn't mean I have to go up there unprepared!
  2. Sure, this crowd is expecting a certain sound, but I can wing it! All I gotta do is immerse myself, like when The Beatles went to India! It'll all come together... right?

Awkward Besties

  • You think this ever happens to other musicians? Is there a mariachi player out there somewhere trying to fake his way through an oompah band performance?
  • You're probably wondering why I didn't just stay in hiding. Well, you see, I am still in hiding... sort of. You know in movies, when the spy gets spotted he starts making out with his sidekick and the bad guy looks away? Anyway... lip balm?
  • You know what the worst part of all this is? You just know somebody's gonna make a video of my set and post it on DikDok with the caption "POV: u lied on ur resume" and go viral. And I won't even get to monetize it!
  • Hey, after my set you and I should hit up every last stall at this festival. My treat. Or we can play the goldfish scooping game for nine hours and free all the fish. You know, whatever you're down for.
  • I'm rehearsing what I’ll say when I go up on stage with a saxophone instead of a shamisen. I was thinking... "Let's Myx it up!" No? Shoot, I thought I really had something there...
  • I'm going to warn you upfront, just in case you come to any of our shows, that my usual band is pretty metal. There's a dinosaur, and an assassin from feudal Japan. Oh, and I wear a leotard. We mostly play smooth jazz.
  • Look, I may seem too distracted to notice much, but l can still see that thirsty look. You want to touch the hair, don't you? Well, now's your chance. Don't let this opportunity slip away.
  • By the by, please let me know if you'd like me to keep the language more savory than spicy. Sometimes I'll be jamming, and suddenly the song'll take a detour into flavor country. I'm talking "sriracha wasabi" levels here.
  • Hey, I just thought you should know that you're looking like a fresh slice of summer watermelon tonight. In fact, you're the whole fruit platter. I'm actually super hungry, do you want to grab a bite?
  • Hahaha! You're such a merry prankster! Just don't tickle my feet, or l'll take off this sandal and smack you with it!
  • Hey heeey! This is super nice. You’re an exceptional person with a generous spirit. Look at you!

  2. Great! At least that's one looming source of anxiety I can put to bed. Now I can go back to worrying about choking on stage - maybe literally, if the crowd starts tossing takoyaki at me...

Sweetheart

  2. You're welcome. I'm not sure why they call ice cream with marshmallows and chocolate "Rocky road". Because if you were a road, you'd be hella smooth. HAHAHA! Sorry, the stagefright is making me weird.

Boyfriend

  • You remind me of a tastyass guitar solo, blasting out right at the climax of the song and blowing my gawd damn mind. Either that or dango on a stick. I love those things.
  • I can pretty much listen to you talk for hours. Which I find almost ridiculously attractive. One sec - I'm going to see if I can find a phone book for you to read.
  • I made so many tips, but it doesn't seem right keeping all that cash to myself. Let's give back to the festival by spending it all on food and games! Of course, we'd be twice as efficient if I had to buy two of everything, hint hint...
  • Hey, hold my hand. Yeah, there you go... No, that's it. That's what I wanted. Thanks! Also - your hands are SO soft.
  • Now that I know saxophone goes great with taiko drums, I'm wondering what else I could experiment with! Electric guitar, ukulele, theremin, pipe organ? The world is my dango!
  • The festival organizers want me on the main stage again tomorrow! I was wondering if you'd like to come. I can get you tickets for the "scream and cry" section, or the "father forced to bring his daughters" section. Your pick.
  • You mischievous scamp! If you think you’re going to escape reprisals, think again!
  • Thanks! You’re like a sugar daddy and a dream mama all mixed into a gorgeous, frankly adorable package. Haha! I said package!

  2. What I'm saying is, I think I can make this musical mishmash work. And heck, even if the crowd don't dig my sound, so long as you're in the audience, I know there'll be at least ONE person bobbing along and enjoying the tunes

  • [Same as Lover]
  • I was half expecting you to disappear by the time my set ended, which surely would have meant my last minute setlist substitution went over like a lead balloon. Happy to see that isn't the case. I'd like to kiss you now that the danger has passed.
  • There's no feeling better than the roar of the crowd... Except maybe the touch of a loved one. But it's a close call. I mean, damn.
  • They say the best way to say "I love you" in a song is without using those exact words. So tell me if this phrase works for you... *ahem* Boomy boomy wum wum. Yea? Nay?
  • One of my new fans gave me a plushy they won! Aww! I've always wanted a Rastafarian banana for my collection!
  • Lame pick up line time! Hey, do you believe in love at first sound? Or should I get back up on stage again? Or... Wait, the acoustics WERE good enough for you to hear me play, weren't they?
  • Even the old-fashioned grandmas in the crowd liked the gumption I showed creating new fusion music on the fly. That, or they fell for my abs and luscious hair. Either way, this is making me tear up. Hahaha! I'm such a sap.
  • I feel pretty blessed. Turns out no matter the venue, crowds love a musician who's brave enough to be true to himself. And my truth includes wearing a thong and kimono onstage and singing rock and roll songs about obscure memes. Life is pretty sweet.
  • Quick question. How would you feel if a flash mob suddenly appeared, and started performing an enormous musical number complete with live musical accompaniment? Also - how would you feel if it was about to happen in 3... 2...
  • Oh man, if you liked that set, you should have heard me in the shower this morning. I was KILLING it on this one song. I really wish you were there. What I'm saying is that we should shower together. Gigiddy.
  • Oh hey, didn't see you there. Hmm... No, let me try that again. But sexier. Oh hey... Didn't see you there...
  • I only spent an hour on my hair this morning. I know, I know, but it's all the time I had! It may have seemed like I was utterly unprepared for this gig, but I actually got a LOT of panicking time in.
  • Hmm. I ordered one too many okonomiyaki. Which I'm just as shocked as you are, having found out this was possible. Here. Have my extra. It's served with love. And bonito flakes!
  • I've really got to stop saying, "drop me a beat" whenever I hear someone accidentally make a rhyme during conversation. That taiko drummer just took it literally. Now my ears wont stop ringing!
  • [Same as Lover]
  • Gosh, I just don't even know what to say. You're magic? You're amazing? I think I'd better make up a word here. Here we go... You're flergle!

Dates

[edit | edit source]
  • [Dinner] Haha! Nothing says "I love you" like a dinner bun bitten into the shape of a heart. Except maybe a dango bitten into the shape of a heart. Or takoyaki. Basically what I'm saying is, can we get post-dinner snacks?
  • [Boat Ride] Yes, the hat was entirely necessary. If there's one thing I can say about myself, it's that I always understand the assignment. Except for, y’know, this one time.
  • [Coaster] I'm not sure what festival-related shenanigans resulted in those sparkles getting in my hair. But they looked pretty snazzy in the breeze hey?
  • [Carnival] Not gonna lie - the acoustics in that haunted house were amazing. The walls were the rockstars there, not me.

First Meeting

[edit | edit source]
  1. (You’re wandering around, enjoying the vibes, when you stumble upon someone who decidedly... isn’t)
  2. (A sweet, nervous-looking guy stands frozen as throngs of happy festival-goers flow around him... Talk about being alone in a crowd!)
  3. Nimh: Uh, hey... Nobody stood me up or anything, in case you were thinking that. My friends were supposed to meet me here, um, okay, QUITE a while ago, now. But it's fine..
  4. (Well obviously you have to help this cutie find his friends... and barring that, you can help him find some fun with you!)

Adversary

  • So... I’ve missed the meeting with my friends. I should probably just go home, right?
  • Hey! Just a quick heads up - I'm not usually a festival... going... kind of guy. I'm not sure why, but I felt that was important to be up front about.
  • There are entirely too many people asking me if I'm lost. Of course I am! This is a pop-up event. Everything here is new and strange.
  • You don't have to keep me company if you don't want to. You probably have friends you need to meet up with. Friends that were more specific about where they were going to be.
  • I know I probably seem SUPER jumpy, but trust me. It's just because the number of people I don't know here is WAY bigger than the number of people I do know here. It's Nimh's equation for disaster.
  • Well, may as well look on the bright side. Now I don’t have to worry about coming up with a plausible reason to leave early.
  • Ack! No no no! Haven’t you ever heard of stranger danger?
  • Omigosh! Did-did-did you mean to brush your hand against my... Wowzers, I am COVERED in goosebumps!

  • If you habitually befriend lost people like this, maybe you could start some sort of festival-based search and rescue service?
  • You've heard of a sweet tooth, right? Well, I have an entire sweet JAW. In fact... my friends said they would buy me ice cream if I came. That's... that's why I'm here.
  • Honestly, the worst part of all this is my eye keeps twitching. Granted, it's probably because of stress, but it makes me feel... suspicious.

  • If we hurry, we can probably catch the next cultural presentation! It’s listed as... “Folkloric Japanese Ballet”... Whatever that means.
  • We’ve done, like, 80% of the festival things I wanted to experience! That’ll get you an ‘A’ in school, so for social activities it’s at least a ‘B+’.
  • So, would you like a date... square? I love date squares. Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to ask you.

  • Oooh boy, one sec. Little light headed. Being around you gets my heart racing. Don't worry; I'm not like those fainting goats. I won't pass out. At least, I don't think I will...
  • Someone asked me if I liked peanut butter on my celery. And I said, “Not neces-celery!” They didn’t get it, but I laughed for a minute solid. And now I am again - hahaha!
  • Y’know... I’ve been told that I have really soft hair. If you wanted to see for yourself... I wouldn’t mind. I’m pretty pettable.

  • I keep catching myself looking at you with hearts in my eyes. It's harmless, I think, but maybe keep watch over me just in case?
  • I actually have a... bad heart. Like a "borrowed time" kind of situation. But I'd rather have it strained than broken. So stay with me.
  • I'm a bit shy to admit it, but... You're the first person I've ever kissed. And it was literally something out of a Jdrama, so I'm afraid you may have set the bar a bit high for any future Nimh-kissers. And now I'm blushing.
  • You know, I think I can honestly say I'm glad I came. Between all the snacks I've gotten to try and all the time I've got to spend with you, this is shaping up to be the best (only) festival I've ever been to.
  • All of this festival rigmarole really, uhh... Tested my heart, I guess. But I wouldn't trade this for anything.
  • Hahaha! No no, stop! I'm so crazy ticklish, and my laugh makes me sound like a dork.
  • You're definitely on some sort of quest to spoil me! Holy moley, I can't even begin to show you my gratitude.

  • I'm sort of a sucker for fairytale endings. I never really imagined I might live one out. Do you have any plans for your "happily ever after?"
  • Do you suppose they'll make a movie out of our story? Or an anime? Probably at least a video game, hey?
  • I hope that when the festival ends, it won't mean you're, well.. Done with me? I mean, if festivals and parties are part of the deal with you, I'm not busy this Saturday...
  • I was thinking how nice it would be to climb to the top of that hill and kiss you underneath the sunset. Or the sunrise. Actually, we shouldn't even be worried about the sun.
  • Part of me is sad the festival is only temporary. I'd hate for you to have any reasons not to come by anymore. Also, I sort of want to win a goldfish.
  • It's... It's hard to say something so big and powerful. But I'm in love with you. If you can, l'd love to know what YOU think before I faint...
  • If I gave you one of my lucky rabbit charms... would you... wear it? Not only because I want you to have good luck for all eternity, but I think it would be kinda cute if we... matched.
  • Can I ask you a favor? Can you... lay your head on my chest? I'm supposed to be monitoring my heartbeat, but I think it would feel nicer if you helped me out with that.
  • I would like to take you somewhere that doesn't involve a ride with loop de loops or spooky jump scares. I wasn't kidding about the heart condition, hahaha!
  • Who would have known that getting abandoned by my friends would turn into the most wonderful thing ever to happen to me? I would endure it a thousand more times if it meant being with you.
  • Would it be right to say that you found me when no one else was looking? Even though we never DID find my friends... so I have no idea if they WERE looking...
  • How are you today? I've prepared us lunch, though l'd like to note there's a distinct lack of salt, caffeine, and other stimulants.
  • I tried to whisper something scandalous to you, but you didn't hear me. And now I'm too embarrassed to repeat it. Arg! Why am I like this?

  • Oh thank you! Thank you so much - I don't even know what to say. Who's cutting onions in here?

  • [Dinner] I don't know what to say. Sunset at a fancy restaurant is exactly my idea of a wonderful date. Let's go again soon.
  • [Boat Ride] As cheesy as it sounds, I really really adore taking those silly boats on the lake with you. It's just... perfect.
  • [Coaster] Aaaaah! I.... I really don't want to disappoint you, but... Maybe I haven't been clear about... I'm... I'm allergic to roller coasters! We should definitely consider not really doing them again!
  • [Carnival] Jumpscares are the enemy of those with weak hearts! That doesn't mean I won't go with you again, but it does mean I might need you to hold me.

First Meeting

[edit | edit source]
  1. (While admiring the festival, you see a sporty-looking fellow walk past you with... a large watermelon?)
  2. (Intrigued, you hurry and catch up with him to find out what kind of fruit-based festival activity he’s a part of!)
  3. Ace: Oh hey! Yeah, I’m trying to find the stall for the watermelon-splitting game? I brought my own watermelon and everything! I am PUMPED!
  4. (Since you haven’t seen a watermelon-splitting game yet, you decide to help the handsome stranger with his heavy load.)

Adversary

  • When Ace shows up, Ace SHOWS UP. With a watermelon.
  • I read EVERYTHING I could find about festivals when I found out one was happening! Which... was just the pamphlet for the event. But still!
  • Not only did I bring my own watermelon, but I also brought my own bat! It's my favorite. You can look at it if you want to.
  • At the very least, I can count today as arm day! Lugging this thing around is turning into quite the workout.
  • There are a lot of food stalls here that sell snacks I've never heard of before. Dan-go? Tie-yack-ee? Yah-kit-or-ee? That one's chicken, by the way. I tried some. It was good.
  • My team was supposed to have practice tonight, but it was canceled because a bunch of the guys called in sick. Which is weird because I swear I've seen them here at the festival. Do you believe in doppelgangers?
  • HA! No, wait! Be careful! I want to smash this watermelon, but not on the ground!
  • Little short on carrying space right now. Mind holding on to that for me? l'll grab it from you once we've ditched this watermelon.

  1. If you're interested in coming with me, l'd welcome the company. Maybe you could even... take a turn carrying this watermelon?
  2. Ha! I'm kidding. I wouldn't make someone I just met carry this thing. It's really heavy!

Acquaintance

  • Would it be cheating if I used this watermelon to play that bottle-knocking-down game? I can at least ask them, right? Wanna come with me? I'll give you the prize if I win!
  • Since I got here, people seem to be really eager to give me advice. Is it that obvious I've never been to a festival before? Is there some way I can look more... festival-y?
  • If they do this festival again next year, my baseball team should do a dunk tank stall! Anyone who hits the target will get a prize AND the opportunity to try out for the team. That's what they call a win-win situation.
  • Check it out! I discovered a cool perk. If I hold the watermelon above my head, I'm really easy to find in a crowd!
  • Which of these stalls do you think would be most trustworthy for babysitting a watermelon? Probably not the smoothie one, hey?
  • Still not really sure what else I could do with this thing if we can't find the watermelon-splitting stand. I'm out here just trying my best!

  2. How did I never think of this before? Melon... head... Water-melon... It's all making sense- AH WATCH OUT IT'S ROLLING OFF!

Friendzone

  • I'm thinking about getting us some fans. The... paper ones. Not the cheering-in-the-crowd ones. You probably already have enough of those.
  • I wish I had the use of both my hands. I guess what they say is true - you really DON'T know what you've got until it's gone.
  • Huh. I just had an idea. What if I roll the watermelon in front of me? Wait. Scratch that. I'm a baseball player, not a soccer player. It might get away from me and hit someone! Yeah, never mind. I'll just keep holding it.
  • I have the BIGGEST craving for a chocolate-covered banana. Good thing they sell them on sticks here so we can eat them single-handed! In fact, I could probably single-handedly eat like twelve of them!
  • Gotta say - carrying this thing around ain't all that bad when you're here keeping me company. As long as we're together, I won't even be mad if it takes me HOURS to find the stall I'm looking for.
  • I thought there was some kind of drone display, like the ones they have at big games. It turns out, it was fireflies. That's much cooler! Nature is lit. Literally.
  • Can you help me with something? The guys on my baseball team told me that if you say 'gullible' slowly, it sounds like 'oranges’, but I just don't hear it! Guuuuullible... Gulliiiiiiiiiblllllllle...

  1. Okay! New idea. I'm going to take one of these festival banners, tie one side around my waist, the other side around your waist, and we can carry the watermelon between us like it's in a fruit hammock!
  2. Although... that would mean you're literally tied to me. Would that... work for you? It works for me!

Awkward Besties

  • I KNEW getting to know you was going to change my life! Can we... hang out more? Maybe without me hauling this watermelon around? If that's a requirement, I mean, I'd grab more melons for that.
  • Being a baseball player, I know my way around the bases! Oh! Oh no... that was so cheesy. I'm so sorry!
  • I might need some tips for the fish scooping game. I tend to come in hot and heavy, and I think goldfish probably like things room temperature and gentle.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if you told me you had a lot of fans. Everyone you meet is probably in love with you! Whether they tell you outright, or not.
  • Are you an angel? Because you look like you just crashed down from the sky! Wait. That's not how that goes. Let me try again.
  • Do you have some time? I want to work on my swing! Unless that's not a social activity? In which case, I want to... uh... swing... dance? Yeah! I want to swing dance with you!
  • Maybe, instead of a watermelon splitting stall, they should do an orange-splitting stall. It'd be a good way to add some zest to the festival. Hee hee. Sorry, that was dumb, but I hope it made you laugh!
  • If your determination to get me to the watermelon-splitting stand is any indication of your passion for helping others, can I talk to you about BATS? Er, not the sexy broadway musical. The Baseball Aid and Trust Society!
  • Kind of impressed with myself for not tripping while carrying this thing. I'm a little clumsy. There are even times when 1 walk out of my house and I just kinda fall? Like, "Oh look! Gravity works!" Ow!
  • Mmm. Would you... would you grab my bicep again? I... I really like that.
  • Hey, this is great! Thanks for thinking of me and grabbing one or two... thousand. Now I'll never run out!

  1. (With a tummy full of festival food, you decide it's time to take a break from eating and try out the games for a while.)
  2. (They've got all the classics: shooting games, yo-yo fishing, ring toss, and of course, goldfish scooping! The gorgeous guy running the booth meets your eye.)
  3. Fuyu: You there! Care to test your skill? Don't tell me you're afraid of being outsmarted by a goldfish - you'd only be bringing shame upon your entire family line!
  4. (The other festival-goers seem to be steering clear, but you take "the bait" instantly!)

Adversary

  • Oh! Hello there. Come to play, have you? Step right up. Don't be shy! One play's five dollars, or five for fifteen. No refunds.
  • This is an old-fashioned game, not one of those namby-pamby "everyone gets a prize" arrangements that seem so popular nowadays. It makes me sick - does no one have the guts for gambling anymore?
  • Hmmph. Let them all pass me by. I stood here before them, and here I shall stand long after they are gone... Setup is always the day before the festival, and teardown isn't until the day after.
  • What has happened to society? Once upon a time, the goldfish scooping game would be the celebrated centerpiece of the matsuri festival! Now everything has to be "high tech" to be noticed...
  • From this booth, I've watched the rise and fall of emperors, generations like sand in an hourglass. Darts cast aside for air guns. Arcade games for virtual reality. Purses full of coin for "tap or chip" - whatever THAT means..
  • Has anyone ever told you the parable of the proud boyfriend who thought himself too good to win his date a prize? No? That's because I had all traces of him expunged from history. Even his descendents would not know his pitiful name.... if he had any.
  • You dare sully my snow white fur - did I say fur? I meant SKIN - with your filthy fingers? Go at once to the shrine and repent! And bring me a wet wipe!

  • Why am I trying to convince you of my innocence? I do not need your approval. Merely your spending money.
  • Look at me. Really look at me. Now tell me... do I look "shady" to you? Of course not! Even late at night, my booth is VERY well lit!
  • Would it be easier to convince people of my honesty if I just let you walk away with a prize? Of course. But to do so would be the exact dishonesty they accuse me of! You'll just have to keep paying - I mean, playing - until you win.

  • So... what do you do when you're not throwing away good money after bad? Are there any other lost causes you feel particularly passionate about?
  • My perspective must be skewed by all these eons I've spent waiting on anyone to take up my fish scoop. I can think of no other explanation as to why I would be finding myself so... grateful for your company.
  • To blow from place to place, never staying anywhere long enough for those you meet to truly know you, that is the very nature of the tekiya. I cannot change my ways just to appear trustworthy enough to make a buck.

  1. I can't say I'm surprised by people's instinctive distrust of me. Even among festival folk, I'm a bit of an outsider. Why, just today the woman who sells grilled corn asked me my age! What kind of a question is that?
  2. Do I look like someone who would lie about my age? So what if nobody here knows who I am or where I come from... Or where I get my fish... Or why they disappear without a trace if people don't care for them properly...

Awkward Besties

  • It's... nice to spend more than a game's worth of time with someone. Usually you festival goers are as flighty as lightning bugs, always off to the next best thing. But don't go thinking this means you've earned my trust!
  • If only I had chosen the path of the snow cone seller instead! I could steal, lie, cheat... and still have a line of customers right out the gates so long as it's hot outside!
  • Your curiosity is relentless! Perhaps I should run a booth where people pay to guess my deep, dark secret. We haven't had a game like that since guessing people's weight went out of fashion.
  • No, my secret isn't anything to do with the sad backstory of why I "ran away and joined the circus." One, this isn't a circus. Two, I'm not a runaway. Did it ever occur to you I just like the festival atmosphere?
  • The other tekiya always say you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. But this is a booth for catching fish, not flies!
  • For better or for worse, you and I are duty bound to one another until your prize is won. Until that day. I shall not abandon my post... or you. Unless you're still hanging around at closing time. Then security is probably going to ask you to leave.
  • It comes at the cost of companionship, but there's safety in cultivating an air of mystery. You should try it! Maybe then my coworkers wouldn't be so quick to pin you as an easy mark.
  • If I don't get a lineup at my booth soon, I'm going to need a day job! And not just to make up for the lost income - if nobody catches any of these fish, guess who's on the "hook" for keeping them all fed?
  • Wait, why are you looking at me like that? Is that... affection in your eyes? S-stop that at once! I am ancient and unknowable and may yet steal your wallet!
  • You're supposed to keep your hands on the other side of the booth! ...But that thing you're doing feels good, so I suppose I'll allow it.

  • I wasn’t “making eyes” at you! I was glowering at you! Intensely! Because you still haven’t scooped a fish, and I refuse to let you leave this booth until you do. Every move you make, I’ll be watching you.
  • Why are people coming to the booth trying to buy talismans and asking me to transform so they can stroke my tails “for luck”? I’m here to give out fishes, not wishes.
  • Hee hee hee hee! Ahem. Never speak of this again.
  • This gift deserves its own festival. It would tour the countryside so the masses could appreciate its majesty for themselves! Orrrr I could put it by my bedside so I can look at it every day.

  1. I chose to live the traveler's life, drifting from festival to festival across the countryside and the years, never staying anywhere long enough to be known...
  2. Now I'm finally ready to make a different choice. No more secrets. I choose to let myself be known, even if it means I choose to risk rejection. I choose... to declare my love for you.

  • What’s an hour to a kitsune? A year? A lifetime? Stay with me, and we shall live from season to season and festival to festival as if we were paging through a book of woodblock prints.

  1. I thought I'd be set in my old ways forever, but you inspired me to face the fear in my bruised heart. To open myself up to the possibility of love and acceptance over the certainty of loneliness.
  2. Thank you for helping me see a new future... but I'm still not making my game any easier.

Max Lover

  • [Same as Lover]
  • Since knowing you, I have rediscovered tender parts of me I thought long lost. I feel... whole again. Thank you.
  • But of course you chose my booth before all others. Our hearts call to one another. How did I fail to recognize it for so long?
  • Can I... ask you something? Is my yukata out of style? Be honest. I fear I'm stuck in my ways about more than just how I run my game...
  • My dearest patron... You gave me not what I demanded, but what I truly needed. How will I ever repay you? Give it thoughtful consideration. An indebted kitsune is a treasure beyond gold.
  • Come, lay your head in my lap and I'll read you poetry. And then, whenever the position begins to strain your neck, we'll switch places!
  • Where's that blasted "Back in 5 minutes" sign? I know I've got dozens of customers lined up to scoop for fish, but they'll have to wait! I need to win you a yo-yo as a token of my affection!
  • I may be a bit ornery, but I'm not jealous. I only ask that if you've got any other festival flings, you bring them all here to try their hand at scooping a fish!
  • A kitsune may grow to have nine tails, but we only ever have one heart... And mine belongs to you.
  • It's... strange. Whenever you are around, my body feels... Warm? Not sweating from the humid summer heat, or from standing over a smoky grill for hours... A temperate, comfortable warmth that comes from the inside!
  • I suppose since you have shown me such patience and generosity, that I could follow your magnanimous example and give players the leeway of an extra scoop or two... But only if they're close!
  • It's a bit of a step down from traditional matsuri fare like takoyaki and dango, but I suppose I could broaden my horizons and try some of the newer-style festival food, like "churros" and "deep fried butter"...
  • You know, I find the notion of my lover combing my hair quite intriguing. Surely it must be one of life's most intimate, sensual pleasures. Completely unrelated, but I bought you a hair brush, hair ties, and some butterfly clips!
  • I can't remember the last time I looked forward to the many years left ahead of me. I shall be grateful for every day of my life I get to spend with you.

  • A gift to be treasured as much as the giver.

  • [Dinner] The tea may have been a touch over-steeped, but the company more than made up for it.
  • [Boat Ride] Cherry blossoms dance... Meet their partners in the pool... Love reflects itself. Hmm? Oh, sorry, it's just that the picturesque outing inspired me to compose a haiku...
  • [Coaster] Oh, alright. The view at the peak of that towering iron monstrosity was quite impressive, I suppose. It's no Mount Fuji, but it's wasn't entirely offensive.
  • [Carnival] Ha. Those ghouls weren’t quite so keen to torment me... How curious!

First Meeting

[edit | edit source]
  1. (As you're enjoying the festival atmosphere, someone who is paying WAY more attention to their phone than where they're going walks right into you!)
  2. Whoops! Didn't see you there. Me and my viewers were on our way to see the stage setup before the music starts.
  3. Actually, would you mind taking all these half-eaten snacks and small prizes off my hands? Thanks! You're a rockstar.
  4. (This poor streaming workaholic! With his nose stuck in a phone, there's no way he can fully enjoy the festival. Time to step in.)

Adversary

  • What? A guy can work and have fun at the same time! That's the life of a streamer, baby!
  • I haven't been this invested since I was in a cauldron. No I'm not going to explain that reference! Get over it.
  • Wait! What do you mean, chat? I don't see the pancake stall! What do you mean? What do you mean! What do you mean?
  • Don't worry, I'm going to be streaming all day! My channel is your one stop shop for an insider look at this beautiful local festival! Next on the agenda... ring toss, but BLINDFOLDED!
  • I'll throw a poll up in a minute here for what to try next! The choices are water balloon yoyoGoldfish Goldfish scooping, or trying to eat 16 takoyaki in under 30 seconds!
  • Whoa wait a sec. Are those free phone charging stations over there? That means I don't have to lug around all these battery banks! Neato!
  • Whoa! Nearly dropped my phone there. Maybe give me a heads-up the next time you're about to get hands-on?
  • Hmm. I don't care much for this. But I want to let you down easy. Oh I know! I'll pretend that I can't tell I'm thinking this out loud! Brilliant plan, Ichiban!

Acquaintance

  • Here’s what I’ve discovered so far. Dango is lit. Demon masks are terrifying. More discoveries to come!
  • Gosh, this whole place is fantastic! The food, the decorations, the stalls, the way everyone's dressed... Ten out of ten! Would recommend. Anyone interested and able should get their butts down here!
  • Give me a hand. I'm trying to come up with cute timestamp labels for this video. How's this sound: "Feeling brr-illiant at this cool matsuri!" No, no, you're right. This is a summer festival. Not a winter festival.
  • Hold on, everyone. I'm going to put my phone down for one second. Just one second! Keep your eyes on the screen... this would be such an unassuming place for a jumpscare...
  • Gawd! Look at this shot! What do you think, chat? Could I use this for my thumbnail?
  • Honestly, you weren't the first person I bowled into... but you ARE the coolest! Want to join the Ichiban team as my eyes? Then I won't crash into anyone ELSE! Probably.

  • Hahaha! Filming this festival makes me feel good, and when I feel good, I want to film. What's the opposite of a vicious cycle? A sharing-caring cycle? Is that a thing?
  • I never noticed, but most of the festival games and food are really hard to enjoy while filming myself. Hmm... You wouldn't... hold the phone for me, would you?

  • I can't wait to see what kind of fan art we get of us at the festival! And when I say I can't wait, that's hyperbole. I'll check when I get home.
  • Hey, so, do you have a channel I could shout out? I figure a lot of people want to win you prizes, but how many of them can boost your subscriber count?
  • HeeeeeEEeeey. How are you? Mind if I take a live photo? It's for the community tab. Pretty please?
  • Wait! Before I swear off filming for the rest of the day, I've got to record myself doing the goldfish scoop! I mustn't let the fans down!
  • The amount of support the chat gave me to end the stream was... confusing? Why wouldn't they want to participate in this beautiful event?
  • That feels amazing. You can tell because l'm smiling so big my face hurts! I seriously can't stop myself! If the comments section could see me now...

  1. (You're taking a second - okay, third - lap of the festival when you notice a food stall that's a little different from the rest.)
  2. (The sizzle and smell of fryer oil wafting through the air is more reminiscent of the matsuri festival's 'Murican cousin: the good ole county fair!)
  3. Mac: Hey, pal, can I offer ya a free sample? I got deep-fried cheeseburgers, dill pickle candy apples, heart attack on a stick...
  4. (The cuddly bear of a guy running the stall hands you a morsel of something delicious speared on a toothpick. Is it just you, or does he look as yummy as his food?)

Adversary

  • Thanks for giving my free sample a shot. Now be honest: what do you think? And don't hold back. I'm a professional chef, I can take the heat!
  • Anyone saying I gotta get more fiber into my diet needs to understand... No chef eats like this on the regular! Honestly, when we're home the last thing we wanna do is cook. I'll take a protein shake, thanks!
  • I should count myself lucky I was able to book a stall here in the first place. Have you SEEN the food these folks make? So much cooking talent all in one place! I'd sample some of everything, but I didn't wear my stretchy pants.
  • Try my deep fried taiyaki with cookies and cream filling! Not to toot my own piping bag, but I feel like it's a whole new take on the genre!
  • My nieces are gonna be so mad I didnt bring them along tonight. But it was either that, or deal with their mom being even madder at me when they came home with a coupla new pet goldfish...
  • If this little venture works out, I'm calling up my buddy that runs a taco truck to join me next time! It'll be the battle of the grilled corn: tomorokoshi versus elote! No matter who wins, our tastebuds do!
  • Now, how the heck did you know I had an itch that needed scratching? I'd take care of it myself but then I'd have to change my gloves and wash my hands
  • Well, it's the thought that counts, and I can tell you're REALLY thoughtful! Or just good at popping balloons with darts.

  • I considered doing my own spin on takoyaki, but come on: they're battered, drizzled with mayo, AND served on a stick? That's the perfect fair food already!
  • These matsuri festivals have got one thing going for them: I look way less dorky in this hachimaki headband than I do in a hair net!
  • I'd just like to state for the record that l'm not a complete hipster when it comes to fair food. My favorite flavor of cotton candy is "blue", just like everyone else!
  • I've been brainstorming what to offer as a free sample. There's an art to it, you know? In the "weird fair food" bizz, morbid curiosity is half your sales, so letting people try before they buy defeats the purpose!
  • Aw, man, I knew I should have prepped way more of everything! I just hate waste, and I'm not sure how many food banks would take leftover pickle-flavored dango if I didn't sell out...

  • In my business the "ice creams that shouldn't exist" market is HUGE, but I don't want to stray TOO far from matsuri tradition. So with that in mind... wanna be the first to try my squid ink snowcone?
  • Hey, if I gave you the contents of my wallet, would you go win me one of those paper fans? It's sweltering back here but I'm way too slammed with customers to take five and win one for myself!
  • Tonight's going so well... if I start talking about taking this menu concept and upgrading to a restaurant, squirt me with a water bottle! There's enough gimmicky diners in the world!
  • Kids keep rolling up to my stall looking for noodles and steamed dumplings instead of chicky nuggies! I don't have a single one of those options on my menu, but hey - it's a nice change of pace from working the food truck, at least!
  • I shoulda known that influencer would go viral when he ordered one of everything on my menu without reading it first. He had no way of knowing that "chocolate dipped banana" was actually a chocolate dipped GHOST PEPPER!

  • Have you ever considered a job in hospitality? Because you sure have a talent for making people smile! Me especially, heh, so I guess I'd be your first regular...
  • The pineapple on pizza debate is played out. I wanna know your thoughts on whether SEAWEED belongs on pizza!
  • What's your favorite romantic meal? I want to grill it, deep fry it, and serve it on a stick!
  • Boy do I ever appreciate the second pair of hands back here. Rushing to get all this food out on my own meant my plating was getting real sloppy. I couldn't get away with calling dishes "deconstructed" forever!
  • So you and that influencer are close? Do you think you could convince him to do a shout-out video? Not for me - for the yakitori stall next door! I tried a sample and it was AMAZING, but they somehow only have eight followers!
  • Cooking these crazy dishes has been so fun, I might feature some of them as daily specials at my food truck! Speaking of which... Try this new bamboo shoot curry poutine. I think it may be the exact sorta flavor fusion my old menu was missing!
  • You're so sweet, if you were a churro I wouldn't need to dust you in cinnamon sugar OR dip you in caramel!
  • Eheheheheh! Wait, watch it! I'm warning you now... Keep this up and you're gonna make me snort! There's no unhearing that one, trust me!

  • I tried to whip you up a sensual chocolate lava cake, but I forgot that when it comes to baking, cooking with your heart may sound romantic, but following the recipe is still required. So how about some... hot pudding... instead?
  • Everyone's always talking about finding their "Dream Daddy"... What about us Dream Uncles? We have a lot to offer, too!
  • Alright, you're askin' for it now. One, two, three, four, l declare a TICKLE WAR! Yaaarrr!
  • When it comes to picking out presents, you sure are... gifted! Haw haw haw!

  1. I think it's time for us to take our relationship to the next level. It's a big step, so I understand if you're not ready to put yourself out there the way I'm asking... Oh, I'm so nervous! Phew! Okay, here goes!
  2. Will you... help me create an original dish? I know I've asked for your input a bunch already, but I really want you to take the lead on this one. I want to hear your ideas and bring your vision to life!

  • Hang on! it doesn't match the rest of this getup, but I have an apron for just this occasion. One second... where did it go...? Oh whatever, just come over here and kiss the cook!

  1. Who'd have thought that when I offered you a free sample, I'd wind up giving you my heart on that toothpick instead? That's CRAZY! But then, so's fair food. It's not just about "who can invent the weirdest ice cream flavor then deep fry it."
  2. It's embracing the unexpected. Putting yourself out there. Taking a chance with your tastebuds on a crazy combination and discovering something special... Or in your case, someONE. And falling in love. Just like I love you.

  • My sis is gonna be so mad at me, but I went and won my nieces a couple of those goldfish. Don't you worry, though. I'm no deadbeat - I'm going straight to the pet store to buy top of the line tanks, food, and water filters! Wanna come?
  • Mmm. I love the way you fit in my arms. I just want to curl around you and protect you from the world. And give you snacks and buttpats, of course.
  • So what was YOUR favorite part of the festival? On second thought, don't answer that! That'd be like asking me what's my favorite food to deep fry! I love them all equally!
  • I never asked: are you the "pick me up and twirl me" type? Because I got a craving to do just that, and you look like you'll fit right in these hands...
  • I was planning on taking you to play some traditional matsuri games, but I changed my mind at the last minute. I just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something fishy about that one stall...
  • Don't get me wrong, the games and the music and the atmosphere were all great, but spending time with you is what made this festival the most fun of all!
  • I heard there was a kidnapping here at the festival! l asked the organizers if they needed help, but they said, "Don't worry, the fireworks will wake him up!"
  • So... no pressure, but l'd really like to see you again once the festival's over. How about you stop by my food truck sometime? Or if you're busy, I could bring the truck to you? It is on wheels, after all...
  • I need to come up with some one-bite dishes for my next event. If only there was a way I could put you on my menu, because you are one yummy mouthful!
  • Are you an onion volcano at a teppanyaki joint? Because you're an absolute smokeshow! Just a bit of chef humor for ya.
  • When it comes to wooing their lovers, some guys compose a song. Others compose a sonnet. I compose a... sandwich? A soup and salad special? Dangit, why aren't there more romantic words in cooking? That coulda been so smooth!
  • Let's make like a saucier and mix things up... You be the big spoon tonight! No, no, I changed my mind, that's too weird.
  • I've done it! I've finally perfected my recipe for Mac's Famous Mac and Cheese. And it's all thanks to you - if not for your hotness, l'd have never thought of adding ground habanero seeds to the flour in my roux!

  • This is better than all new kitchen equipment! And trust me, I don’t say that lightly!

Dates

[edit | edit source]
  • [Dinner] I don't normally go for frou frou fine dining, but that was delicious! In the words of a chef far more famous and grumpy than me, "Finally, some good flippin' food." Okay... He didn't say "flip", but I didn't want to ruin a romantic date by swearing!
  • [Boat Ride] Was the picnic lunch a little much? At least I didn't go with my first idea - which was to bring an entire charcuterie on board! Get it? Charcuterie? On board?
  • [Coaster] Thanks for giving in and taking my sweater. I know you said you weren't cold, but that roller coaster was pretty breezy, and I caught you shivering once already!
  • [Carnival] Sorry for passing out on you back there. I've been working flat out all night... I guess I needed a nap more than I needed a scare!
