Template:FilterTable
This template adds filter buttons to a table so that users can selectively show table rows.
Example 1
[edit source]Below is a simple usage example. Note that the table and the filters are separate. The table argument contains the id of the target table.
This filter only has a single row, which filters wikis by their category. The column argument specifies which column to search for. In this case, it is the second column. Note that by default only exact matches will be considered, so "Animation" will only match rows whose second column is "Animation" but not "Animations".
The table must have a header row, as the script will otherwise break as a result.

Name !! Category
Stella Sora Wiki || Gaming
Pleasant Goat Wiki || Animation
Rolling Sky Wiki || Gaming
Equestripedia || Animation
LCP Wiki || Technology
Result:
Name | Category |
Stella Sora Wiki | Gaming |
Pleasant Goat Wiki | Animation |
Rolling Sky Wiki | Gaming |
Equestripedia | Animation |
LCP Wiki | Technology |
Example 2
[edit source]This is an advanced example for this template. Each row is accompanied by explanatory comments.

Name !! Category !! Language !! Socials
Stella Sora Wiki || Gaming || English || data-search="DiscordTwitter" |

LCP Wiki || Technology || English || data-search="Discord" |
Result:
Discord| Name | Category | Language | Socials |
Stella Sora Wiki | Gaming | English |

Pleasant Goat Wiki | Animation | English | File:Logo of Twitter.svg File:YouTube full-color icon (2017).svg |
Rolling Sky Wiki | Gaming | Chinese | File:Logo of Twitter.svg |
Equestripedia | Animation | English |

LCP Wiki | Technology | English |

.svg){kind=link}
Note that the last table column only contains icons without text. To specify a hidden text that can be searched for, you can use the data-search attribute in the <td> element. For example, Stella Sora's row is as follows. The data-search="DiscordTwitter" part makes this table cell searchable for both Discord and Twitter.
Stella Sora Wiki || Gaming || English || data-search="DiscordTwitter" |
If the data-search attribute is used for a column, it must be present on all rows. This shouldn't be a problem if you are using some automated way to generate data.
Additional features
[edit source]Customizing buttons
[edit source] also accepts a class argument, which adds a custom class to the row. It can be used to customize this row of buttons. For example, if an icon in a button has a greater height than the others, buttons will no longer have uniform height. The class=extra-line-height argument will increase the line height and in most cases ensure that all buttons have the same height.
Multiple filters for the same column
[edit source]It is possible to have multiple filters targeting the same column. The mode argument must be set to contains in this case since matching exactly removes the need for a second filter.
Below is a simple example.

Test column
YouTube (2023)
Twitter (2023)
Twitter (2024)
Discord, YouTube (2024)
Discord (2025)
Result:
Test column |
YouTube (2023) |
Twitter (2023) |
Twitter (2024) |
Discord, YouTube (2024) |
Discord (2025) |
Raw HTML structure
[edit source]if you prefer to not use/customize pre-built templates, below is a minimal HTML structure that works with the JavaScript and can be customized and built upon.
<templatestyles src="FilterTable/styles.css"/><div class="filter-wrapper" data-table-id="filter-table-example">
<div class="filter-row">
<div class="filter-button filter-reset">Reset all</div>
</div>
<div class="filter-row " data-col="2">
<div class="filter-button">Gaming</div>
<div class="filter-button">Animation</div>
<div class="filter-button">Technology</div>
</div>
<div class="filter-row " data-col="3" data-mode="contains">
<div class="filter-button is-all">All</div>
<div class="filter-button" data-query="English"> English</div>
<div class="filter-button" data-query="Chinese"> Chinese</div>
</div>
<div class="filter-row " data-col="4" data-mode="contains">
<div class="filter-button is-all">All</div>
<div class="filter-button">Discord</div>
<div class="filter-button">Twitter</div>
<div class="filter-button">YouTube</div>
</div>
<div class="filter-search"></div>
<div>Showing <span class="filter-counter"></span> of <span class="filter-counter-total"></span> wikis.</div>
</div>
As for the table, it can also be built with HTML. Because MediaWiki disallows the <thead> element, the heading must also be inside a table row.
<table class="wikitable" id="filter-table-example">
<tr>
<th>Name</th>
<th>Socials</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Stinova Wiki</td>
<td data-search="Discord"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>LCP Wiki</td>
<td data-search="Twitter"></td>
</tr>
</table>
Other recommendations
[edit source]Constructing the table by hand would be extremely tedious and can be made more difficult when the search field needs to be specified by data-search. Consider using some automated way of generating the table, such as the Cargo extension or a Lua module.
